Hey, Asana Enthusiasts! Asana March Update 2025 brings exciting stuff, all made to promote a smoother and more intuitive workflow.

Now, users have access to a unified toolbar, consistently present while using Asana. Moreover, the “otherwise” feature is readily available for setting fallback actions when initial conditions to tasks aren’t met. Enterprise Plan users can also manage Sandbox separate from the main admin console with the Sandbox self serve update.

With these improvements and more, Asana provides teams with more control over their work. From simplifying navigation to enhancing admin flexibility, Asana continues to evolve and help teams improve work routines worldwide. Learn more in this comprehensive Asana March Update 2025 guide.

Asana Personal Plan

Unified toolbar

Personal Plan users can now navigate Asana with ease. The toolbar has become a fixed element across all surfaces in Asana, so you can now customize tasks anytime, no matter if you switch projects or views.

With the unified toolbar, workflows improve by creating an efficient and easy-to-find interface, enabling you to get work done without unnecessary friction.

“Member of” tab in mobile project directory

Asana has improved the user experience of their mobile app with the “Member of” tab, which keeps track of the projects you are part of. Found in the project directory, this tab allows you to jump into any project without delay, especially when you juggle multiple projects and tasks at once.

From Home, go to Projects to get a view of your team’s current projects. You will find the Member of tab above your screen.

Updated Google Drive attachment filepicker

You can now paste links to files in Google Drive as an attachment. If you have authenticated Google Drive in Asana, typing in the file title works just as well.

Asana has come up with a way to make needed information more accessible with the updated attachment filepicker. Now, you can view supplementary data as you work and collaborate with your team.

To use the newly updated filepicker, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the paperclip icon atop the task panel.
  2. Paste a file URL from Google Drive.

To easily add files by their title:

  1. Allow Google Drive to access Asana first, and use your Google login credentials.
  1. Choose among titles shown in the scroll menu that automatically appears when you click on the text box.

New OAuth flow for Google Drive in Asana desktop app

The updated open authorization or OAuth standard flow has made authentication quicker than ever. The new OAuth update can help you easily connect your Google Drive account onto the Asana desktop app with utmost security.

Asana’s newly improved manner of integration ensures a hassle-free experience, so you don’t spend too much time on technical setups even before you begin working.

You can manage your authorized apps by doing the following:

  1. Click on your display icon above and go to settings.
  2. Click on the Apps tab and scroll down until you see the Authorized Apps section

Asana Starter Plan

Custom task types and statuses

Custom task types made in the task templates menu are for standardizing tasks for projects and planning task status options, so you can make tasks faster than before. Customization can go as far as projecting how task statuses affect task completion when changed.

Depending on the project and the team assigned to it, you can create templates for tasks with similar contexts. The better you customize tasks, the quicker you align with unique workflows within your team and the more consistent your reports will be.

How to create custom task types:

  1. Open a project and click on Customize.
  2. Click on task templates.
  3. Fill in the necessary fields for your next set of tasks.

Custom team icons

Remarked for their personalization features, Asana now allows users to assign icons and colors to teams. Creating custom icons for your teams will make them easily identifiable within projects. Small yet impactful, custom team icons add a layer of individuality to your group and reinforce team identity.

Deeplinks for rules

Asana now creates a specific URL for each rule you create, and you can view it through the browser. These URLs are called deeplinks, intended to make specific online locations available without passing through a homepage.

The new update ensures that once a rule has been created, its URL remains the same so long as it exists for use. When you click a deeplink, it gives you access to the rule builder, where its specifications and settings are seen in full.

To see the deeplink for your rule:

  1. Choose Customize in your project. Go to rules and click on your chosen rule.
  2. Click on the three dots beside Save and choose Copy rule link.
  3. From there, you can paste the link to share to a team member or include in a note.

“Otherwise” branch in rules

The new condition branch “otherwise” stretches the automation power of Asana and enables users with an alternative action when their first set of task rules do not meet their needs. Much like building a code, the “otherwise” branch gets into action when all else fails.

For example, by applying the “otherwise” condition, Asana flags or reassigns an unassigned task automatically, especially one subjected to a specific timeframe. Teams can benefit from this update by preventing work lulls and showing productivity when the need for reporting comes up.

To use the “otherwise” rule:

  1. Click on Customize in a project.
  2. Click on Rules, then click Add+.
  3. Choose a template or create a custom rule.
  4. Create an initial rule, and click the plus sign (+) to see the “Otherwise” option.

Dependency fields in Gantt view

The dependency field in Gantt view is a game-changer for users seeking a more sensible way to plot to-do’s for long-term projects. Now that dependency fields are available to use in Gantt view, users can prevent overlapping deadlines when planning tasks on a visual timeline.

Gantt view equipped with dependency fields will allow you to assess your tasks and set priorities across multiple sections in a project. That way, you’ll predict how much time one task will take to finish before starting on the next.

Dependency fields now appear by default, but otherwise you can:

  1. Add them manually through the customize button above.
  2. Find the task you want to block the task at hand with.
  3. Feel free to add more than one task per field and see how they add up in Gantt view.

Text widgets in dashboards

Text widgets in dashboards give users the chance to personalize and define their insights and reports with more accuracy. Dashboard widgets show team progress with charts and visualizations, showing how one compares to other team members in terms of productivity. But sometimes, visuals require your own interpretation of them.

Adding text widgets to your dashboards will give you space to comment, identify keypoints, or simply describe what you’re seeing. You can also drag the text box anywhere in the interface for your convenience, in case you need it for summaries and quick self-notes.

Go to a dashboard and choose Text from the available widgets.

The text widget allows you to choose formats, add objects and bullet points, links and codes.

AI Studio usage data in the admin console

The AI studio add-on is now accessible through the admin console. This will give you a summary of the ways you utilize AI in your workspace, from rule executions made in AI studio to the run schedules or dates set for these rules.

Asana plans vary in AI studio features, but with its availability for use from the admin console, leveraging AI in your work is now a few clicks away.

Asana Advanced Plan

“Add portfolio” in portfolio drop down menu

You can now assign a parent portfolio to an existing one through the drop-down menu. This has made organizing data more convenient by allowing users to file portfolios without navigating away from their current task, leading to better structuring techniques.

With the new “add portfolio” option, you can sort and compartmentalize your portfolios to what works for your setup.

Assigning your portfolio to a master portfolio is simple:

  1. Click on the arrow pointed down beside your portfolio name.
  2. Choose Add to portfolio from the options.

Project roles in capacity planning

Knowing team member assignments while capacity planning helps managers save time just by looking at their display names. Asana has included project roles alongside project members’ names for ease of identification, getting rid of the hassle of changing views and checking projects one by one.

To see project roles in capacity planning:

  1. Make sure you’ve assigned roles to members through your project’s overview tab.
  2. Head over to Reporting found in the sidebar.
  3. Click on the Capacity plans tab and see the roles as they reflect on your capacity plan automatically.

Team sharing on portfolios

Asana has recently enabled team sharing on portfolios for easier and quicker collaboration. You may opt to invite members or teams to access the portfolio or share a link to it.

To share your portfolio with your team:

  1. Click on the Share button beside your display icon.
  2. Modify your share settings accordingly, ensuring the right members have access to your key project updates.

Asana Enterprise Plan

Salesforce in Asana rules

Newly integrated Salesforce in Asana rules helps teams automate actions between work projects and sales operations without much manual effort.

Now, Salesforce users have quick access to Asana’s rule system, which is useful to plan sales pitches and marketing calendars efficiently. Automating sales processes, such as setting up meetings and designating tasks right after a sale, will speed up operations and conserve team energy for brainstorming.

You can find Salesforce integration options while making rules for your project:

  1. Go to your project.
  2. Click Customize, then Rules.
  3. Find Salesforce by clicking More apps on the sidebar.

Asana recommends working with the member responsible for Salesforce management and using their installation guide as reference for a smooth integration process.

Improved company logo upload

Asana Enterprise users can now customize company logos both in light and dark mode, giving them a preview of their logo against different modes in the platform.

Asana’s adaptability efforts serve teams by offering more branding options, such as the improved company logo upload process. Now, you can designate company logos for light and dark modes and even customize your logo to make it fit any layout.

Add your company logo through the admin console. Make sure your logos are visible and easily identifiable. Asana has provided guidelines for what counts as a quality logo based on resolution and file type.

Restrictions in project templates

You can now apply restrictions to project templates, so you can protect your project from unauthorized edits and accidental deletions.

With restrictions in project templates, you can also set multihoming preferences for tasks and essential data without accessing different views for each task and project.

API support for custom field permissions

Users can now define field access levels and visibility settings in the API, thanks to this update. By controlling field permissions, users can choose who gets to view and manipulate fields.

Managing field permissions with API support enables expert users to modify and standardize field access levels more accurately. With API support, you can manage field permissions in a controlled environment, limiting the chances for human error and avoiding disrupted workflows.

Asana Enterprise+ Plan

Sandbox self serve

Asana now allows admins to import external projects to Sandboxes with the Asana CSV importer. The self-serve method is a new way to test data, where Enterprise+ plan users can take their own data to know whether certain processes are beneficial for their team, as opposed to using data samples provided by Asana.

This update gives users more automation power, allowing them to test out potential rules and new functionalities to their preexisting projects outside of Asana, thus making Asana an all-around tool to make smart projects even smarter.
