Optimize your team in and out of the office with the Asana Android app, Asana’s mobile project management platform that enables you to track progress wherever you are.

With how people run businesses now, working behind a desk all day is not always enough. Some work types require deploying teams of contractors and engineers to construction sites, others of kitchen and catering staff to special events, and many more.

But when people get too busy with work–hyperfocused on their tasks–managing workflows on the go can be tricky. Eventually, we discovered that working remotely can be just as efficient as when it’s fulfilled in an office space, if not better–with the right tools.

Mobile apps for project management platforms like Asana guarantee productivity and efficiency wherever you may be.

In this case, we’ll discuss the Asana Android app, its key features, advantages over desktop and web versions, and how various teams can benefit from it. So, to know how your team can maximize its productivity and management potential, stay tuned!

What Is Asana?

Project management platform Asana provides a digital space for teams to track and organize their projects strategically, aiming to reduce time spent on “work about work.”

Upon identifying the main causes of work delays, Asana developed a concept to represent their core principles on work management called the Pyramid of Clarity.

Asana's Pyramid of Clarity

The diagram shows that the fulfillment of a company mission ultimately depends on projects built on smaller, more digestible tasks. Impactful for their size, tasks accomplish projects that lead to key results, all of which work towards company success.

Operating on this mindset, Asana lets users create, break down, define, categorize, and delegate tasks to other members of their workspace.

Asana's task views applicable on projects

Moreover, users can choose from different task views, such as calendar, Gantt, and Kanban views, all of which help them visualize their progress and conveniently plot agendas.

With Asana, share files, connect to apps like Google Drive, and generate productivity reports and insights with Asana as well. There’s also the inbox for task notifications, like due date reminders and assignments.

Asana is customizable to adapt to different workflows, making it suitable for teams from various niches and industries. Whether you’re in tradesmanship, F&B, healthcare, or commerce, Asana has got you covered.

What Is Asana Android App?

The Asana mobile app for Android is a compact version of your Asana workspace on a desktop. Having Asana on your phone allows you to track your projects and collaborate with your team from your phone.

With Asana’s added portability, users can create tasks, build portfolios, receive notifications, and search within their workspace anytime, anywhere.

The Home tab lets you access your recent activities, including your pending tasks, recently opened files, projects, dashboards, and more.

But above everything, it’ll also provide a quick report on your overall status, letting you know whether you’re staying on track or not.

How Does the Asana App Help Teams Stay Organized On The Go?

Construction & Engineering

Persons doing field work in hard hats and reflective vests

Construction businesses heavily deal with project tracking and real-time communications between on-site and office teams.

The Asana app enables project supervisors, civil engineers, and contractors to manage their teams remotely. Here’s how Asana may help.

1. Deliver status updates from field teams.

On-site personnel can attach site photos, relevant blueprints, and punchlists with the Asana app.

Asana automatically syncs to the desktop or web version once online, so any update to the tasks reflects instantly across Asana apps, such as design changes and compliance updates.

2. Toggle between task views that fit your preferences.

Users can choose among different task views, depending on how they wish to tackle their daily tasks.

Sections like tasks, projects, and portfolios have a Manage view button at the bottom. For example, users can look at their tasks from a calendar view to see the distribution of tasks throughout the month.

Meanwhile, the board view divides tasks into columns–each with customizable labels–for easier organization.

Energy & Mining

Given the hazardous nature of energy and mining businesses, coordinating maintenance schedules and ensuring safety protocol compliance among teams are top priorities.

Asana’s Android app equips operations managers, field engineers, and safety officers with mobile tracking and real-time reporting tools.

1. Prevent equipment malfunction and schedule repairs promptly.

For maintenance supervisors and reliability engineers, equipment failures are inevitable–but foreseeable. With Asana, they can plot schedules for preventive maintenance of drilling rigs, turbines, and other heavy machinery.

Users can also log equipment downtimes straight from remote sites, ensuring that responsible personnel create schedules accurately.

2. Create documentation for safety protocols and incident reports.

HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) officers can compile documents of safety guidelines,  such as emergency and first aid procedures that are accessible to staff at all times.

In case of accidents on site, staff members can take immediate action and maximize manpower while waiting for professional assistance.

With the mobile app, users can also log incident reports regarding work-related mishaps by attaching relevant photos and descriptions. This will help provide further clarity and improve response times between office staff and on-site personnel.

Human Resources

Today, human resource agencies can manage recruitment processes remotely, especially those of startups and small to medium-sized enterprises or SMEs. Employing human resource services helps save costs and allows businesses to focus on their workflows.

But with several businesses and in-house operations on their plate, HR personnel may need optimal work management setups. To manage HR work, Asana can streamline recruitment pipelines and employee onboarding. Particularly, the Asana app for Android can:

1. Track job applications with a simplified interface.

Using the Asana app for Android will enable HR to create and view recruitment checklists from their phone. Asana’s mobile app features a simple user interface without the clutter of a full screen of tools that may only come in handy for more immersive work.

With the Asana app, users can easily add interview notes and feedback in between interviews. And since the app auto-syncs with the main Asana web or desktop tool once connected online, users can set automated reminders for follow-up interviews, check-ins, deadlines, and more.

2. Assign onboarding tasks to new hires.

HR managers and training coordinators can create onboarding projects assignable to newly hired employees. These may include studying company wikis and contracts, and setting up work accounts.

Delegating initial employment tasks to new hires will encourage them to explore their new work at their own pace, making for a smooth transition to their new environment.

Real Estate

On top of office paperwork, real estate agents and property managers juggle multiple listings and client meetings several times a day. To help them commit to their tasks and schedules, the Asana Android app simplifies two key aspects of real estate management.

1. Schedule property visits that align with client availability.

Agents can schedule showroom appointments and site visits from their phones, along with automated reminders to follow up with potential clients regarding the set schedules. Having an on-the-go tool such as the Asana Android app enables agents to update their projects on time and keep everyone well-informed.

2. Centralize property documents for easy referencing.

Asana can store private documents such as contracts, disclosures, and inspection reports. Agents can also assign their clients as collaborators to property projects in Asana, so they gain access to these as well to maintain agent-client transparency and trust.

Healthcare & Home Care Services

Healthcare personnel using a tablet

Working rounds and scheduling shifts get hectic at times, especially when hospitals approach full capacity. The World Health Organization recognized the unfortunate conditions of HRH (Human Resources for Health) today, often linked to a lack of team coordination and proper communication tools.

As people in healthcare are no strangers to unjust work hours, they need all the help they can get. Healthcare providers, including doctors, nurses, and floor managers, may find Asana useful for schedule management and internal communications

1. Plan staff assignments, such as shift hours and rounds.

With a mobile tool like Asana for Android, managers and supervisors can ensure that all hospital staff members cover their respective shifts accordingly. Everyone involved can access their Asana workspace with the app anytime, promoting workflow clarity across teams.

With assignment features like the “Member of” tab, Asana project managers–which, in this case, could be floor managers or head nurses–can assign staff members to their rightful stations and know their whereabouts at all times.

2. Create and update medical notes in real-time.

Asana’s user-friendly mobile interface makes note-taking fast and convenient. With Asana, medical personnel can log notes during or right after patient visits instead of manually writing on physical notepads, reducing paper waste.

Subtasks under tasks can also double as checklists, which may aid nurses during scheduled drug administrations. This technique ensures clear communication among staff, especially for the nurses assigned to succeeding shifts.

Franchise Businesses

The challenge of franchising lies in managing multiple locations at once. Saving on transportation costs between franchises risks maintaining each location’s performance at an optimum.

Asana’s mobile app is designed specifically to make remote work manageable and convenient for anyone, including franchise owners and managers.

1. Create standard workflows effective for multiple locations.

In franchising, consistency is crucial for a manageable and energy-efficient workload.

With Asana, managers can create and enforce standardized workflows applicable to daily operations. On-site managers can also benefit from standardized workflows when hiring new staff members as it will speed up onboarding.

With standard workflows, franchisees and on-site managers can streamline communications by managing store-specific tasks from the same Asana project.

2. Track store performance across branches.

Regional managers can track key metrics across multiple locations with the Asana app for Android. This will allow them to monitor sales and reach targets, document customer feedback, and maintain store management efficiency.

With store managers sharing an Asana workspace with franchise headquarters, each constituent exercises accountability by sharing updates through task comments.

Food & Beverage Operations

In F&B businesses, tension-filled workspaces such as commercial kitchens tend to struggle with miscommunication, disrupting workflows. To manage, teams should employ a management tool that everyone can use for inventory tracking and staff management.

With the Asana Android app, restaurant owners, kitchen managers, and catering coordinators effectively leverage each other’s operations so theirs runs smoothly.

1. Coordinate inventories with suppliers.

Restaurant managers and caterers can create Asana projects where they can create, track, and share checklists, delivery dates, and costings with their suppliers. The Asana app is capable of real-time tracking, which helps during sudden food shortages.

Managers can also plan and update delivery schedules with suppliers to ensure they get fresh ingredients every time.

2. Plan schedules to avoid staff shortages.

An empty kitchen during peak hours is a recipe for disaster. To help with this, head chefs can coordinate with shift managers so shifts are covered for the duration of the restaurant or catering operations.

By simply signing up in Asana, anyone from restaurant managers to servers can access Asana workspaces, whether through the desktop or mobile app. Handheld access to Asana ensures that everyone receives notifications promptly, regardless of their schedule at work.

Retail & E-commerce

Multifaceted businesses such as those in retail and e-commerce handle multiple client-facing and backend teams, making operations tricky to manage.

With the Asana mobile app, sales teams and warehouse staff stay connected at crucial times. Asana’s project management facilities cater to all team types, whether they operate behind the scenes or present to clients and stakeholders. In retail and e-commerce, Asana can do the following:

1. Plan and streamline content and campaigns.

As a project management platform, Asana specializes in custom task-centric projects that users from any industry can align with their specific business goals.

The Asana app for Android features a calendar view, useful for creating social media calendars. For daily tasks, users can easily toggle views from calendar to bar view, so users shift their focus between current and upcoming tasks or events.

2. Deliver stock updates and track customer orders.

Retail sales teams can use Asana to monitor both sales and inventory levels, guaranteeing that product deliveries are on time and of quality.

Asana’s task creation features allow retailers to define and customize their data based on their chosen metrics. For accuracy, optimize workspaces through the web or desktop versions first, so that preferred customizations will automatically reflect on the Asana mobile app.

Media & journalism

Media and journalism staff often work in a time crunch, writing news fast and chasing publication schedules. Tight deadlines dictate work productivity as a journalist, and without helpful tools, the workload only gets heavier with time.

Fortunately, Asana for Android can keep up with any pace and accommodate breaking news anywhere. Here’s how media and journalism teams can leverage the Asana Android app.

1. Assign news pieces to reporters and writers remotely.

The newsroom can get messy depending on current events. With Asana mobile, editors can delegate roles and assign stories to reporters and writers with a few taps.

Asana has made task creation easy, especially with the Asana app. From the My Task tab, collaborators can create tasks with the New task button, then label and define them accordingly with due dates and subtasks.

Along with task creation, users can also attach relevant media and links as references, which helps journalists supplement their news stories accurately.

2. Create subtasks for social media posts and printing procedures.

Aside from post and print schedules, media managers can use Asana to collaborate with graphic designers, video editors, and other personnel handling visual aids for written reports.

By dedicating time to communicating with in-house and remote multimedia teams, news agencies will ensure that reporters and journalists leave no detail unreported. Work management tools like Asana not only work to manage tasks–they also help teams commit to their core goals and deliver with integrity.

Logistics & Transportation

Logistics and transportation teams can benefit from Asana’s tracking capabilities. In this industry, efficiency and coordination are crucial for aligning shipment schedules and ensuring shipping fleets are constantly conditioned for operations, which can take time.

With Asana, fleet managers, dispatchers, and delivery personnel can track shipments, dispatches, and maintenance schedules without changing management tools.

1. Track and share important schedules between office and remote locations.

To stay updated on shipment progress, fleet managers can use Asana’s mobile app to monitor delivery statuses in real time. In case of delays or operational issues, they can also communicate with stakeholders as soon as they happen, to keep them informed.

With Asana’s file attachment features, teams can also store and share contact details of suppliers, drivers, and repair services.

2. Plan vehicle maintenance relative to dispatch schedules.

Dispatching may affect vehicle maintenance, and vice versa. To avoid uncoordinated schedules between inland operations, transportation supervisors concerned can create dispatch and maintenance tasks as schedules plottable on the calendar view.

By scheduling these events in advance, teams can anticipate unforeseen events, save on emergency expenses, and steer back to regular workflows quickly.

Why Should You Use Asana Android App?

Built to provide a platform where teams can exercise organization and collaboration across locations, the Asana Android app is an on-the-go platform for all professionals. Asana for Android maximizes team flexibility and efficiency, regardless of a business’s industry or nature.

Its task assignment features coupled with subtasks doubling as checklists help users break down complex projects into manageable steps. With Asana’s file attachment capabilities, users can store and share important documents and various media across teams.

Another useful feature is the due date field that also works as event or action schedules, letting users tie tasks or events to deadlines. Asana’s auto-syncing capabilities also enable users to conduct real-time updates and note-taking wherever they are–and their team members can see them too.
